《 About Taubooks 》 Welcome to Tau Books website! www.taubooks.com is an exciting new way to see our new books and read short stories in English and Chinese.
My name is Father Barry and I have been in Taiwan for a long time. Before, I never read much in Chinese, because I could never find anything I liked. Then, one day, about 25 years ago, San Mao mailed me her first book called, Sahara Story.
I read the book from cover to cover. It was easy to read, because I liked what she wrote. Then I realized that if you find a book you like, you really would read it, even if it were in another language.
Recently, I also enjoy reading short stories in Thai. It seems more fun to see something in a different language than your own. It is even better when there is a translation, so you don’t have to look up so many words.
I love to write and have many stories I want to share with you in this website. The first one is called Ghost Story. You will be able to read a little bit each time. Don’t get scared!
About "Chingchuan Story" Chingchuan lies in the hills of northern and is populated by the Tayal aboriginal tribe. The stories in this book, both humorous and poignant, tell of my first six years as pastor in Chingchuan, the village of Clear Springs. This new English version of Chingchuan Story comes twenty-five years after San Mao translated the Chinese version. For the past thirty years, I have continued to live in Chingchuan, serving the needs of the indigenous people of that mountain area.

About "Song of Orchid Island" Song of Orchid Island has short stories of my life on Orchid Island over thirty years ago. I like it so much, because the descriptions of the people and place are very poetic. The characters are so loveable; I think you will get to know them as I did.
Although San Mao translated this book into Chinese many years ago, people who have read both versions, say the English is better. It is the way I actually wrote it. I hope you will like it, too.
It is important to study a language. But sometimes there is no one around to practice it with. So we read. And the more we read, the better we know the language.
So, happy reading! And remember, when we learn a new language we become another person.
